Quick Science Meeting

  1.  Noted that pucks seem to be 'denting' on top and leaving o-ring impressions.  This was after JdF cruise.  We need to do some forensics on where these impressions are coming from.  Single o-ring may be concentrating force in middle of puck and 'denting'.  (later discussions make this unlikely; Doug says Ti is too stiff, and only compression is of o-ring, then entire clamp face is holding puck.)  Bill has measured some pucks, and found irregularities, but engineering does not think findings are significant.
  2. HAB/SHA testing (Elif)
    1. we are testing cultures for contamination
    2. Elif has created flow-charts for what needs to be done next (she will have child any day now...)
    3. She'll organize her standards and primers.  Still working on specificity of primers.
  3. Bill and column testing
    1. has Global-FIA columns and wants to test various column material (silica vs. hydroxyapatite)
  4. CTD is ready for Drifter.  Will clean deep CTD.

Will have a 'lessons learned' meeting in Sept, regarding flooding of ISUS.
